lock textarea.swf widget for editing

I am using Captivate 6 for a presentation that requires text to be displayed on a slide in a scrolling region. The testarea.swf widget seems ideal for this BUT I have one problem: I don't want the user to be able to enter or change text in this scrolling region during playback.

Is there some way to lock the area for editing during playback?

I have no intention of using Presenter 8---already decided it does not have the right combination of features so I'm taking the slightly longer but better looking route with Captivate.

On a related note.....does anyone know if there is a variable that represents the content of the Captivate "slide notes" pane? That would give me another option I could use.

Steve
